One of the objectives of the ADRF is to make
available information about deer, their conservation and
management. Because this is a specialised interest, few
publishers are interested in manuscripts on the subject and
booksellers and librarians are often not prepared to carry much
in the way of stock -- some, for instance, actively censor
material by refusing to carry books on hunting. We consider it
important that the hunting public has access to information which
they would otherwise lack -- with consequent inability to counter
any image problems which are portrayed in what is often an
otherwise 'one-sided' media. Conversely, the non-hunting public
should at least have access to complete information which allows
them to reach a balanced judgement.
The ADRF has established itself as a publisher of good books, a
move which has achieved the dual benefits providing the important
literature which has been missing from the Australian deer scene,
and of raising money which will ultimately be put to use in
conservation and management projects. Another important
aspect of the publishing venture is that it has provided new
authors in this somewhat restricted field with the opportunity to
have their manuscripts published.
The Foundation is keen to enhance its range of titles and would
welcome suggestions from readers -- if possible, please advise
the title, author's name and publisher when Emailing suggestions.
